Thanksgiving

A lot of people ask me how I can tell Hosea and Micah apart.
Some of my friends have come up with this.
Hosea looks like Mr. Vargas and Micah looks like me,
and since Micah and Martha both start with M's that is how they keep them straight. But of course Micah and Hosea look a lot like each other too, they are identical after all. But for those of you that think that Micah does look like me, he actually looks a lot like my brother Tim. A lot of people say that we look alike as well, so this makes sense. Here are some pictures we took on Thanksgiving.

same bone structure?

Loved both the faces in this one

And here are some other pictures from Thanksgiving. We hosted here at my house and if you missed it, you missed out. I do not think the pictures can convey how delicious everything was.

two kinds of turkey both equally yummy (one traditional, one brined and smoked )

Mr. Vargas' awesome stuffing, where he used Ritz crackers and spinach
These potatoes were sooooo good, he used cream cheese instead of milk
green bean casserole, heavy on the fried onions just like I like it!

Great sweet potatoes brought by the Siegels

beautifully delicious salad made and brought by Pawpaw and MeeMaw

I didn't take any pictures of the desserts, but they were so good. So I'll leave you with a picture of these sweets instead.

I could just eat them up :).

Halloween

When we asked the kids what they wanted to be for Halloween Judah knew right away he wanted to be Sherlock Holmes, he had a very clear picture in his head of what he wanted to look like.

Josiah was a little bit harder, he wanted to be something scary but we decided that is still too young to be scaring other children. We finally came to an agreement on Batman.

At first Avrah wanted to be a movie star, and then she wanted to black kitty, then she wanted to be a princess, a rock star, a ballerina, what she wanted changed just about every day, so we mixed everything up and made her a rock star, princess kitty.

Ever since we saw Despicable Me we knew that is what Hosea and Micah should be for Halloween. But since we didn’t like any of the costumes (and there weren’t very many of them) so we made our own, they were supposed to also have black hats too, but it was like 80 degrees out so that didn’t really work.

Oh and I even joined in on the fun as La Pandita Bonita

MEXICO

Mr Vargas surprised me for our eleven year anniversary with a 5 day all inclusive trip to Mexico WITHOUT the kiddos. We had such a great time, It rained about half the time we were there but it didn't bring us down, we still had so much fun, made new friends and enjoyed getting to take afternoon naps.

The resort we went to was very eco-friendly, instead of plowing everything down they tried to build around nature, so their were beautiful Mangros between all the cabanas and the beach.

Our room was as close to the beach as we could get, it was just a short walk across this bridge.

We were greated each day with a new towel creature.

This was the salt water pool down by the ocean, after the tide came in

So many beautiful flowers, not sure why we didn't get more pictures.
There are more pictures, but we haven't had our waterproof cameras developed yet.
We had such a great time, and can't wait to go back.

Vacation Time!

I know you have grown accustomed to reading my blog every night,
I know some of you just can’t sleep until you know just what has gone on in the Vargas house.
But you will have to press on without me.
I will take a lot of pictures and there should be a good blog for you next Tuesday.
Until then I hear warm milk can help you sleep.

Triumphant Tuesday!

It seemed like every time I turned around today something was not going right, but none the less I had a great day.
Maybe it was the weather, maybe it was my attitude, or maybe just maybe it was because we only have
ONE MORE DAY
till we are on a plane to
MEXICO!

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day, but I say,
 BRING IT ON!

Ahh Fall

So fall is finally here, while it isn’t my favorite season, that is reserved for spring.

I actually like all of the seasons well maybe not winter but I guess without winter, summer just wouldn’t be as great.

But back to why I like fall. To this self proclaimed TV addict, fall means all my friends shows come back and new friends to make shows to watch too.

So even though I should be studying, tonight I am parked in front of my TV.

Ooh fun Potty update:

Today Hosea pee’d in the potty 2 times and Micah pee’d in the potty 3 times!

2 more days till we leave…

Garage Sales and Greek Festival

We went to the Greek Holiday Festival today.

It was so much fun. There was good food, and drinks and desserts.

There was music, dancing, and beautiful weather. I could not have asked for a better day.

Here are some pictures of the kiddos sampling some yummy Greek desserts.

Judah enjoying a finikia

Avrah with her kourambiethes ( I think that means powdered sugar-J/K)

Josiah with the oh so yummy (I had one too) baklava

and Micah and Hosea with their Greek Orange aid and their koulourakia. I guess the sun was in Micah's eyes

I added this one, because I can't look at it without laughing. I think Micah thought that I was only taking a picture of Hosea and he wanted to be in it too, ( I was taking a picture of both of them!) and then the look on Hosea's face, like what is going on here!

Also earlier in the day we went garage saleing, it was the annual “Wolf Creek Neighborhood Garage Sale”. Which if you have ever been you know it is huge! We didn’t have much time because we wanted to get to the Greek Festival early so we didn’t go to many, but Mr. Vargas found a Ryobi radial arm saw for $40! And we found four wooden dining room chairs for $20, and if you have been to our house lately you know that for some reason (could it be the five kids) we were in need of new chairs. So Mr. Vargas decided that we would paint them and give them character, even though they really were fine how they were, so we let the kids pick a color of spray paint and are in the process of painting them. There will be after pictures to when they are finished, for some reason I did not get any before pictures.

What is the best thing you ever bought at a garage sale?

Three Things Thursday

Three Things Thursday

Today my three things are things that have been filling my head today.

1) Potty training twins is not really as fun as one would think it would be. Well actually it probably is as much fun as you think it is. Today Hosea and Micah wore their cloth diapers (when they wore anything) until nap time. In that time we only had 2 piddles on the floor, but not any in the potty. Until bath time when Hosea climbed out of the tub to sit on the potty and actually went!! It must be sinking in (hopefully)

2) Math. I’m trying to get all my math work that is due finished up. Every Monday we our work is due, it usually is about 3 small lessons and their quizzes and then every other Monday we have a practice test and the actual test due. I already had the lessons done for the 20th but I was working on the things that are due on the 27th because…

3) ONE WEEK TILL MEXICO!!! We are going to the Riviera Maya and staying at the Grand Palladium White Sand Resort & Spa. Without the kids of course. We can’t wait.

Connect 4X4 and a Rock Show

We had unexpected but very welcome family time this evening.

Mr. Vargas has class on Monday and Tuesday nights and Saturday afternoons this semester, every other Wednesday we have “Connection Group” at our friend’s house and now Avrah also has dance on Wednesday night. Oh and Mr. Vargas also has started having band practice on Wednesday (after the kids go to bed, thank goodness). But tonight our connection group was cancelled as was Mr. V’s band practice.

We had some friends take Avrah to dance to give us a bit of a break.

We were able to play connect 4X4 with all the boys. The babies loved putting the little checkers in the slots. Josiah ended up winning kind of on accident, while trying to block his dad.

When Avrah got home, she showed us all her new dance moves she learned (so very cute), and then we put Hosea and Micah in bed, and Mr. Vargas broke out his electric guitar and an impromptu rock show started! The kids each had a pair of drumsticks and were using the couches as drums. They had so much fun rocking out!

Next time I’ll get pictures or videos, for tonight you will just have to use your imagination.

Family portraits

I realized the other day when I was posting the pictures of Hosea and Micah’s haircuts, when I posted their before picture that I have not shown you the family portraits we had taken.

We had them taken around the end of July. These are scanned copies so they quality isn’t really that good. But you get to see them.

We went to Artisan photography and they did a wonderful job. The photographer was very high energy and the kids all warmed to him pretty quickly, even Micah who was a scared at first.
(you can click on any of these and make them bigger)
OH the personalities!

Of course if you are friends with me on Facebook then you may have already seent these, but I know not all of you that read this are.

Enjoy the pictures. We sure do.

Happy Birthday Solomon

3 years ago today my nephew Solomon Jordan Siegel was born.

My wonderful sister Anna beat me to the blog today, and of course she blogged about our nephew Solomon also. She is so much better at words than I am. So please go and read her blog.

We went to Solomon’s (Solo) birthday party yesterday. It was so much fun.

His mom made plain cupcakes and brought all kinds of goodies to decorate them.
She had Frosting in a can (I had no idea they made this!) and pretty much any kind of candy topping that one could imagine! The kids had a blast making a mess of the cupcakes.

Solomon really is a joy, he changes everyone he meets for the better.

Sweet Solo Kisses

If you follow me on Facebook then you probably have seen the video that I posted that his Papa (my brother Tim) made for him. If you haven’t seen it, then watch it.

For some reason I can't get it to post on my blog but you can go and watch it  here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIoIBaAslGc

Go here to read more about Solomon and if you feel so inclined please donate to his AWESOME school that he goes to. It is 100% paid for by donations. It is free for ALL of it's students and it receives NO money from the government!

Haircuts!

We took the boys to get their hair cut today. Yes all of them. We are a little crazy we took all 5 kids with us, but decided not to get Avrah’s hair cut today.
This was not their first haircut, but it has been almost a year since they had had their hair cut, so we weren't sure how they would react. Hosea did wonderfully, he was a little nervous but just sat so still for the lady. Micah on the other had was not happy about the whole situation. I had to hold him on my lap and he whined and cried and protest the whole time. They had two different people cut their hair so of course they now have different hair, not much though Micah’s is just a little bit longer. One might think that getting their hair cut might make it easier to tell them apart, but it has not been the case.

Hosea’s face is a little bit rounder and Micah’s is a little bit slimmer. (For all of those who always ask how to tell them apart)

The BEFORE. In case you forgot what they looked like.
Hosea in Green, Micah in Yellow

with their hard earned suckers and balloons
Yes they do have matching bruises on their forhead, no I don't know how they got them
Hosea
Look at those EYES!
Micah. Holy EYELASHES!
"I've had enough pictures for today!"
Cheezing it up for the camera
SO in sync with each other!
